Taiwan, Tainan City propose US$ 90M project to host WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup long-term

PARIS, France23/03/2018 – The Premier of Taiwan Ching-te Lai and acting mayor of Tainan Men-yen Li presented their case to become the long-term host of the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup, which was launched in 2011 and has been held in Taiwan for the first four editions.
Unveiling a US$ 90 million eco-friendly project to the WBSC Executive Committee, Mayor Li proposed to keep the U-12 Baseball World Cup in Taiwan over the long-term and build it into an iconic world event.
Tainan officials said hosting the U-12 Baseball World Cup will help position Tainan as an international city and help promote baseball to future generations.
“Tainan wants to host the world through baseball,” Mayor Li said.
Addressing the WBSC President and Executive Committee through a video, Premier Lai said: “Baseball has always been the most popular national sport in Taiwan. Let’s connect the world together with baseball.”
The massive project includes plans for an on-site hotel, a player’s village, a training centre and a youth museum.
